It’s always special to me (Joel) when I get to shoot a wedding of someone I know. It is extra special when that person is family. When my cousin Caleb asked if we would be willing to travel to photograph his and Taylor’s wedding, there was absolutely no question. I would have wanted to have been there anyway, but being able to shoot it makes is even more special. Caleb was the only other boy cousin on my dad’s side of the family, so even though we had a substantial age difference, I always thought a lot of him…especially as he got older and started coming into his own in things. So, to say that I was excited to be there is putting it lightly. It made it even better that I would also be able to see the rest of his family (his two sisters and his mom, my aunt). We could not wait.
The wedding was at the Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado which is right on the edge of the incredible Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive in on its own was incredible, but once we got there…wow. We had not met Taylor before we arrived, but once we did and had the chance to talk with her, we knew she was just as sweet and amazing as we had thought she would be. The next morning when was time for the wedding, everything went as smooth as can be. It always is a lot more relaxing when both the ceremony and reception are in the same place, so there was not much that could go wrong. Of course, weather can always be an issue for an outdoor ceremony, but the day of the wedding was the best weather of all of our days there. There were so many great family moments (which we love even at a regular wedding), and the ceremony was so sweet. It was performed by a friend of theirs, and it was his first ever wedding (which you would never have known because he did great).
After the ceremony and reception, we finally had the chance to do their photos, and that was a blast We always have to play it by ear to see how adventurous a bride wants to be, and Taylor was up for everything (and had the right shoes to climb in to!!). We went to a local water fall and a few other places, and the grandeur of where we were I think speaks for itself in the photos.
We are so excited for you two, Caleb and Taylor. I cannot tell you how honored we were to be there, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for you two for your future. We love you both, and blessings to you both!
