When I think of Leah and Andy the first word that comes to mind is adventure. I think if you know them you’d agree they are adventurers. Though both very committed and successful in their engineering careers, they certainly embody the catch phrase, “work hard, play hard”. They are divers, sailors, campers, hikers, dancers, gardeners and have traveled all over the world. They love to learn new things and adventure through life together.
We met them through our destination wedding in St. Lucia 2 years ago. I say met, but really they found our photos online and sought us out. We had a Skype date and realized these two were passionate about each other, life and photography. It was an instant fit. They had decided on a destination wedding in St. John, USVI not only because it is seriously one of the most beautiful places on earth, but because it has such special meaning for the two of them in their relationship.
They first discovered St. John a few years back. Living in New York at the time, they wanted an inexpensive Caribbean getaway. Being avid hikers and campers they realized that you can in fact camp on St. John as a large portion of the island is a national park! So they packed up and hopped a plane, and for $35/night they camped in paradise. They came back to the island several times over the years, and when Andy proposed to Leah it just seemed fitting to bring their family and friends to such a beautiful place to celebrate their wedding with them.
Our St. John story is much more brief, but when we visited there for an afternoon stop on the cruise, we instantly realized this was a special place. Sitting on Trunk Bay beach (recently the top rated beach in the world) we committed that we would be back. When you think of tropical paradise Trunk Bay is it. We never dreamed we would get to come back so soon and be with such amazing and special people! Although Joel and I were sick for most of the trip, we still loved the experience we had and getting to spend time with Leah and Andy’s families was a treasure. You know who you are, and you are awesome!
The wedding day was a beautiful sunny day, and Leah and Andy were married under a canopy of trees on the beach, officiated by Leah’s brother-in-law who performed one of the most heartfelt and moving ceremonies we’ve ever been a part of! We did photos on the beach then went to the beautiful Rhumb Lines restaurant they had rented out for an amazingly fun reception. And for only about 25 people there, they out-danced many receptions of several hundred! Not to mention the surprise puppet show. Two days later we went out again and did more photos around the island, culminating with the two of them getting in the ocean for some fun, different and needless-to-say, wet shots. It was great!
Leah and Andy, we are so grateful we got to share this particular adventure with you! We wish you all the best in everything you do – I know you are going to have an amazing life full of love, joy and of course, adventure!
