There is a type of sweetness that some people have that is infectious. I am not talking about the fake, sickeningly-sweet that you will see sometimes that is manufactured and forced…I am talking about the real thing that cannot be faked. This is Rebecca and Malachi. We were honored enough to be asked by them to travel up north past the border for their wedding. This was our sixth time photographing a wedding around Chilliwack, BC, and each one is such a special treat. There’s no way I could pick a favorite one, but they each have had their own special character that stands out. For some it was the grand romance of it all like Janelle and Mark’s wedding, for others it was the uniqueness of the bride and groom (looking at you, Natasha), but they have all had something that was just theirs. This one was definitely about a special sweetness that felt perfectly balanced. We loved every moment of it.
They met at church through a leadership training program. It was not an instant connection…it took some time for it to grow. But, they started noticing each other and seeing how incredible each person was. Malachi started hanging out a lot more around where she would be…and the feelings kept growing. In it all, though, they continued growing their friendship. Eventually, the time came…and he asked her out. She said yes, and 6 months later, she was saying yes again at the exact same spot, but this time he was asking her to marry him. The wedding day itself was perfect and went off without a hitch. The ceremony was so beautiful and touching. Ok, well there was one minor thing that happened to throw a wrench into the day…someone stole Rebecca and a bridesmaid’s purses during the ceremony (can you believe that?!?!). Thankfully most of it was recovered a little bit later, but it did set us back on our sacred timeline. Thankfully, though…we still had plenty of time for creating some amazing images while letting everyone still have some fun while doing it. One of the places they wanted to go for their photos was Bridal Falls, which we had been the last time we were here as well. The falls are spectacular, but it is a bit of a hike up a path to see them…especially in a wedding dress and heels. Rebecca assured us that she was up for it, so we were off! When you get to the end of the regular path, the steep climb begins. Not only did Rebecca, who is an avid hiker, manage it just fine…she was going faster than both Malachi and I (who were not wearing heels). I have some seen some impressive physical feats on wedding days, but I am pretty sure seeing her scale that steep, rocky hill at incredible speeds is the most impressive yet. The whole climb really put into perspective the adventure ahead that these two are not only willing to meet…they are ready for it.
Here are some of our favorite images of the day…we could have included so many more! Rebecca and Malachi…thank you so much for trusting to capture your day. It means so much to us, and we loved every moment we were able to spend with you. God bless you both, and we look forward to seeing you next time we are in the neighborhood!
