Some wedding days are massive, extravagant affairs that require an army of people to pull off. I (Joel) have photographed hundreds of weddings like that. They are great for what they are, but the reality is, they are not for everyone. Some people want something smaller…more intimate…more simple. And I absolutely LOVE weddings like that. Amber and AJ decided to have a wedding like that, and I was honored to be there with them for it. There were only 9 people at the ceremony with Amber and AJ…and it was beautiful up on the roof of the awesome Moonrise Hotel. It may have been a short and simple ceremony, but it was no less deep and impactful than any other ceremony three times as long. In some ways, it was even more impactful because you realized that even if there had been 300 people there, the two of them would still have been completely focused on each other. The reception, though? That was a bit more packed! After the ceremony ended, the guests for the reception started showing up in force ready for fun. AJ comes from a very large family, so one highlight was that I photographed the largest single immediate family photo I have ever shot (27 people!! And this was just parents, kids, and spouses!). It was a very sweet and special day, and I am so glad that I could be a small part of it. HUGE CONGRATS to Amber and AJ!!
P.S. Special thanks to my amazing friend Anne Bequette of STJ Creative Photography for telling Amber about me and tag-teaming the day with you. You are incredible! If any of you out there travel to St. Thomas or St. John in the US Virgin Islands, you must check her out!
